Treasurer of the State of Iowa
CLIENT INFORMATION
The mission of the Office of the Treasurer of the State of Iowa is to “carry out its constitutional and statutory responsibilities with respect to various monetary areas important for the efficient fiscal operation of the state government.”
SITUATION
The Office of the Treasurer of the State of Iowa has traditionally relied on paper-based forms to fulfill its constitutional and statutory responsibilities. The opportunities presented to them by the Internet encouraged the Office of the Treasurer of the State of Iowa to seek a better method of obtaining and maintaining financial information. This transformation was developed not only to improve communications between the various agencies the Treasurer’s office does business with, but also to establish a process for ensuring the absolute safety of all public funds collected, managed, disbursed and invested by the Treasury.
SOLUTION
Global Reach developed a series of web based applications for The Office of the Treasurer of the State of Iowa, including an unclaimed property management application, a debt reporting application for public entities, a certificate of deposit management application, and an application for managing records pertaining to the tobacco settlement agreement and the various project funds that are audited by the IRS. Through a range of administrative tools, the various types of users can manage a wide variety of data and information displayed on each web site, such as Banking Institutions and interest rates. Access to the various administrative tools necessary to manage the content of each application is granted based on a cascading series of permissions, so that each individual using an application, whether it is a Bank employee, Treasure Office Employee, or web master of the entire application, has access only to the tools and data that is pertinent to their respective role.
BENEFITS
By using the Internet and the web development services provided by Global Reach, the Office of the Treasurer of the State of Iowa not only has a substantial online presence, but it can also store, retrieve and distribute various types of documents in electronic rather than paper form, thereby improving customer service and reducing the cost of printing and storing paper forms.
