SEO Success: From the Roots Up

More in this section

Now that you've made the investment to design and develop a website, you should have traffic and leads rolling in, right? Unfortunately, it's not quite that easy. Once you launch your new website, you must direct people to it. Unless users are able to easily locate your website, your investment won’t pay off.

Search Engine Optimization is the answer to this dilemma. We’ve talked a lot about SEO, so you may know that there is a lot more to it than just keywords. Though using the right keywords is very important in getting qualified traffic to your website, there are many other factors that need to be taken into consideration.  With so many factors involved, (social media, online listings, consumer reviews, etc.) it can be hard to understand SEO as a whole. To better illustrate how each of these factors contribute to the overall success of your website, we’ve created an analogy:

Think of your website as a seedling: When you initially plant your seed, you need to be sure you have the proper water, soil, lighting, and temperature. Much like that, your website needs the proper care when first launched in order to plant its roots firmly within the world wide web. The water, soil, lighting and temperature are equivalent to relevant content, crawlability, keyword implementation, and meta data. All of these factors are necessary to create a stable foundation on which your website can grow.

So you’ve planted your seed and you've watered it. The soil and temperature are perfect. You wouldn’t then just walk away from it, confident it would blossom all on its own into a healthy tree. Naturally, you would continue to care for it.

Much like a newly planted seed, you must continue to nurture your website. Without the proper care, your roots will not take hold and your tree will not grow strong and tall. Your website is no different, which is why we advocate so strongly for an ongoing SEO retainer. An ongoing retainer allows us to constantly monitor and improve your SEO as best practices change. If you do not invest in an ongoing SEO retainer, it would be like planting your seed into a bucket of soil. Your tree will only grow as much as the bucket will allow.

As you retain your SEO efforts throughout your website’s lifetime, you will begin to see growth. You'll notice your bounce rate slowly drop. You may start to see your page authority increase, along with the number of websites sending traffic to yours in the form of links. You'll acquire social media followers and receive more and more qualified traffic.

As you can see, all of these things will work together and contribute to the amount of exposure your website and overall brand will receive online. To ensure your website grows to its fullest possible potential, make sure you understand and address the ongoing needs it will demand. It is one investment that will pay for itself in the long run as long as you're able to give it the proper attention.
