How Important is Your Klout Score?

You have probably heard chatter about your Klout score, but you may not have known what it was or why you should care. Klout is a website and application that measures the size of a user’s social media network and implements algorithms to measure how other users interact with that user’s content, using that data to determine the user’s score of 1to100. Based on social media networks like Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn, Klout measures the size of the audience that is actively engaging with a user, the likelihood that a user’s content will promote action (such as retweets, mentions, comments, and likes), and the influence value of a user’s engaged audience.

What does this mean to you? It could mean a little, or a lot. If your business is focused on a small geographical area, your Klout score probably doesn’t have much importance. On the other hand, if your brand is looking for a wider audience or hoping to increase its reach nationally or internationally, your standing with Klout could have a huge impact. Additionally, Klout 'influencers' are sometimes treated to Klout Perks – sponsored gifts related to those topics on which you are considered an 'influencer.'

As always, what matters most is to be active in your social media networks by engaging with followers and posting valuable content that will garner interest. If you’re paying attention to and interacting on your social media outlets, Klout will take notice.
