2018 is here and though the time for resolutions has passed, that does not mean you should not still reflect on your marketing priorities. By taking data from the State of Inbound, a yearly report on Marketing and Sales Research collected by HubSpot, researchers were able to synthesize the top five marketing priorities across a large, diverse group of professions for 2018. Here are the results:
Growing SEO/Organic Presence – 61%
Blog Content Creation – 53%
Content Distribution and Amplification – 47%
Marketing Automation – 40%
Interactive Content Creation – 38%

Growing SEO/Organic Presence
SEO, or Search Engine Optimization, is the process of optimizing your website so that it receives more exposure search engines (i.e. Google, Bing, etc.). While there are many methods of optimizing your website, some of the simplest SEO items include having clear, concise window titles that use relevant keywords for every page, having a meta description on each page which offers an overview of the content (again, using keywords) in around 170 characters, and reducing the duplicate content across your website.

For some industries, content creation comes with the job but finding topics that interest readers can be difficult. If you are struggling to find topics, some reflection on the appeal your company is necessary. By appeal, we mean the three Aristotelian appeals of logos, ethos, and pathos. Bear with me! The appeals simply are the understood ways to persuade someone to do something using logic (logos), credibility (ethos), and emotion (pathos). Almost all arguments find a balance of the three and reflecting on the reason your customers have chosen you should give you an idea of how to appeal to new customers in the same way. Applying the balance of appeals to news of changes or innovations in your industry is a combination of successful content creation!
