The Fussy Librarian is a free service that matches subscribers with ebooks that they'll love to read based on genre and content preferences. The Fussy Librarian also keeps users informed about the latest news about bestselling authors and the publishing industry. Administrators required the ability to schedule books, review information, add new genres, and manage book submission costs.
Strategically, the primary goal was to get users to sign up for one of their two newsletters. Secondary goals were to get users to download that day's free ebooks, and to give the users a reason to keep returning to the site regularly. In addition to readers, authors are a key audience. It was important that the site caters to their needs as well with a dedicated "For Authors" news section, and information on submitting books for consideration.
For the design, they wanted a fresh, clean look that would be modern yet laid back. The subscriber demographic skews towards married women, age 40+ but it was important that the design appeal to all genders.
With the Global Reach content management system, SiteViz, we were able to develop a completely custom solution for The Fussy Librarian. Administrators have full control to manage books, authors, send dates, email subscribers, and so much more. Global Reach went above and beyond to provide The Fussy Librarian with an intuitive user interface for efficient management of this abundant functionality.
The design achieved the strategic goals by clearly defining the purpose of the website, highlighting the subscription options, and promoting the day's free ebooks. Page load animations on call further attention to these selling features. The book and e-reader hero photo immediately signal that the focus of the website is ebooks. Soft shadows behind white elements pay homage to the dimensionality of paper and the traditional book. The simple color palette creates a buttoned-up identity and keeps the overall look and feel of the website calm and focused.
